As I was writing for an hour, a question presented itself to me,
“What does language do to the brain?”
This one question tied in with the experience I had with learning Spanish and French, teaching World Geography, and my appreciation of linguistics.I never questioned this while in school and the funniest thing is when you question one thing it leads to another. I truly consider the rabbit hole among other interpretations that it’s discovering the left hand path, another reality other than what you have been programmed to believe.
School failed to help me realize how impactful it is to learn language…
After being a World Geography teacher and learning how to truly read. I realized I didn’t know the effects of language. In the past being a student in a classroom mindlessly memorizing to take tests and quizzes to pass a class. The real world rewards real impressionable results and I want to know what the experts are discovering.
This is a long term project that is going to require updates through various blog posts. A Lot of reading is required but a certain type of reading is going to be implemented, syntopical reading, which involves reading multiple books on the same topic to gain a comprehensive understanding and synthesize new insights. It’s the most demanding and active type of reading requiring significant time and extensive note taking. After reading multiple subjects, fiction and nonfiction, it is time to go to the next level of reading to become a semi expert. Of course not in just the creation of languages but multiple subjects.
But… let’s get into this book that I’m reading
“Language Unlimited: The Science Behind Our Most Creative Power” By David Adger
I know they say don’t judge a book by its cover but let’s dissect since I haven’t read the book yet. I always quote Joseph Cambell, “There’s more reality in an image than a word.” This is a slight transition into a piece of this long term writing project; signs and symbols. They used the infinity sign also known as lemniscate and described our ability to create language, “most creative power”. Are we f****** Magicians?
Let’s get into this cover art, considering the fact that the symbol is used to represent infinite processes, the title makes sense…
It has technical use for book binding, I’m using Wikipedia by the way…
Now, it gets into religion, spiritualism, mysticism, and tarot. The religious aspects used for mathematical reasons. The mystics used ouroboros meaning “tail swallower”, which is usually to portray a snake swallowing its tail and the tarot, the sign representing the balance of forces and is often associated with the magician card.
Isaiah 55:10 “ My thoughts shall not come back to me void.”
Another image that’s interesting and it shows that the lemniscate or infinity sign is about energy in circulation forever, never ending, never destroyed and it shows the magician’s understanding of it. The infinity sign above the magician’s head illustrates that he understands the energy of his thoughts lead to infinite consequence. If there is infinite consequence then there is infinite possibilities. If you are the problem you are the solution, it make sense to hold yourself accountable… you keep your power!
And the tower of Babel of course brings to me the point of intercultural communication and that communication makes the world go round. The more effective and intentional you are in communicating to yourself and others the more you shape your reality.
Now that we have dissected the cover of the book; I’m ready to read and thank you for reading. I’ll keep y’all posted.
Adventure Time!!!
